RIMRIC / CHARLESTON, SC (30 August, 2026) - On National Grief Awareness Day, M.R.M. Parrott has published A Fair Hope: My Family's Love and Loss. His twentieth book, and his most deeply personal and emotional work to date, it is a blend of non-fiction, memoir, and fiction, telling the story of the author's family history, the tragic death of his father, how their lives developed afterward, and how different things might well have been had his father not been killed. “It is a tribute to my father, mother, sister, and step-father, as well as my wider family”, Parrott says. “It is also a tribute to Fairhope Alabama, and a number of other locations in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.”

The manuscript was written in only four months, the text pouring out as the author grieved his father, and since 2023, his mother and sister, who died only seven weeks apart. Set mainly in Fairhope Alabama, A Fair Hope is as much about the family's questions of Religion and Atheism as it is about the tragic death of the author's father, Tommy Ray Martin, on 12 July 1968. Organized around that loss, the book describes the genealogy of the Martin, Good, Butler, and Williford families, the love story between the author's parents, and the effects on the family after a senseless hit and run accident.

A Fair Hope includes a fourth part, providing a fictional family history up to the present, starting with a “butterfly effect” change on 12 July 1968 resulting in his father living on unharmed. The most dramatic changes are seen in his father's continued life, and his sister's altogether different life of well-being rather than illness. In addition, there are four appendices, and extensive references and notes. A Fair Hope is available in paperback and ebook.
