M.R.M. Parrott has published The Intuitive Chef: Cooking Without Measure, a book about cooking, a cookbook without pictures, and a light-hearted auto-biographical look at food and eating. Written during 2024-2025, the new book is the author's nineteenth, but first after more than a decade. Earlier this year, Parrott re-released all 18 of his previous books in paperback, many of which were expanded editions of previous releases.

The Intuitive Chef is based on Parrott's restaurant and family cooking experiences, and includes 40 recipe descriptions for Breads, Savories, and Desserts with “integrated, linear descriptions” intended to be easy to follow compared to separate lists of ingredients and steps. The cookbook does not include photographs of any of the ingredients or results, because traditional recipe formats “create an often false impression of what the result is 'supposed to be', if only you are dutiful enough to follow the chef's steps exactly”, Parrott writes. “When I have a studio picture of a preparation and result in my head,” he adds, “it kinda gets in the way of what I'm actually seeing in front of me in my own home, and it does not encourage creativity. It creates stress!”

This “book about cooking” also covers healthy food choices, restaurant-style cooking at home, perfect pairings, how to design a kitchen, and more. “The book is a response to the decline in quality and rise in cost at many restaurants due to business pressures and nonsensical economic policies,” Parrott explains, “as well as the rise in cost of groceries. While it used to be comparative in cost to go out, that is certainly no longer the case, and as so many of us have spent time and money on renovated kitchens, it makes even more sense today to cook at home as Intuitive Chefs.”
