Travel writer M.R.M. Parrott asks, “Is your city cool?”
RIMRIC / CHICAGO, IL (20 May, 2008)
Touring over 400 cities, parks and other attractions in 2006-07, M.R.M. Parrott says he became “pretty good at reading areas quickly” on his 40,000 mile, 5-month road trip. “Many cities are obviously cool, with strong support of the Arts, happy faces, and a sure vibe,” Parrott says. His list of “cool cities” covers major North American areas of “endless cool possibilities”, mid-sized cities, where “it’s okay to be different”, and “small-ish”, “liveable and unique” towns. Some he was surprised to discover were “cities of the plain”, areas of “former glory”, even “urban graveyards”.
“Driving Home: A North American Tour”, M.R.M. Parrott’s first travelogue and autobiography, describes the “adventures, challenges and lessons” of its author during a 40,000-mile, 5-month road trip across the US, Canada and Mexico. The book, released under a “donation” (but free) download model, is accompanied by the public release of over 2,000 photographs from the trip at mrmparrott.com. His 12th book following 2003 “Timeless” and 2005 “Dynamism”, “Driving Home” is a small press title from rimric press, with its independent books site, rimric.com. Parrott left his home, searched North America in “an efficient car, with far cheaper fuel than today”, he says, then relocated to the “coolest city” in the Spring of 2007.
M.R.M. Parrott’s books include the novel trilogy “Timeless”, a novella, “To Lie Within the Moment”, Philosophy and Science series “Dynamism”, monographs in Philosophy, and chapbooks of poems and short stories.
